Two years ago, Technion Professor Marcelle Machluf, dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering, participated in the torch-lighting ceremony in honor of the State of Israel’s 70th Independence Day. Following is a translation of her powerful speech:
“I, Marcelle Machluf, the daughter of Aliya Abitbul and Yossef Ben-Sadon of blessed memories, am lighting this torch in honor of our parents, people of the mass Aliyah, who gave us everything with love and devotion, even in times of scarcity; in honor of equal educational and social opportunity for every girl and boy, woman, and man; in honor of the Technion, which champions academic freedom and its accessibility to all sectors of society; in honor of my friends, the scientists — both male and female — whose research and inventions transcend all challenges, advance humanity, and glorify our country all over the world; in honor of the belief that nothing is impossible and that only the sky is the limit; and for the glory of the State of Israel!”
Two years later, Prof. Machluf turned on a dime to accelerate and adapt her nano-ghost research to trap COVID-19.
