Yasha Grobman

Professor Yasha Grobman is the dean of the Technion Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, founder of Grobman Architects, founding director of the Technion Computer Oriented Design research laboratory (T_CODE), and an award-winning, practicing architect.

Prof. Grobman’s work focuses on performance-oriented architectural design, sustainable design, and the use of computers to develop innovative tools in architectural design and fabrication. His Technion Computer Oriented Manufacturing Lab, within T_CODE, is equipped with an advanced Computer Numerical Control machine, and 3D printing, scanning, and laser-cutting machines. It is the only such lab in Israel.

As a practicing architect, his projects often test the real-life viability of his research. The Porter School of Environmental Studies building he designed at Tel Aviv University won an international design competition for sustainability.

Born in Moscow, Prof. Grobman graduated from the Israeli Air Force Flight Academy and then served in the Israeli Air Force. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, his master’s degree from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and his doctorate from the Technion in 2008. After conducting post-doctoral studies at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, he joined the Technion Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning in 2010. Prior to his appointment as dean of the faculty, he served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
