Yaron Fuchs

Assistant Professor Yaron Fuchs heads the Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in the Faculty of Biology, and is a faculty member at both the Technion Integrated Cancer Center and the Lorry I. Lokey Interdisciplinary Center for Life Sciences & Engineering.

Just 10 years removed from graduate school, Assistant Professor Yaron Fuchs is already making a name for himself in stem cell research and regenerative medicine. While scientists have long studied the processes of stem cell regeneration and differentiation, Asst. Prof. Fuchs has focused his research in a different direction: the mechanisms for stem cell suicide, or apoptosis. His breakthrough work has revealed unexpected connections to healing wounds, skin repair, tissue regeneration, and tumor growth.

Prof. Fuchs received his bachelor’s degree at Haifa University and his doctorate from the Technion; he was a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He joined the Technion in 2014 and is also on the faculty at the German-Israeli Hemholtz Research School and the adjunct faculty at Rockefeller University. Adding to a roster of awards for scientific excellence, in 2019 alone he was selected as a Young Investigator of the European Molecular Biology Organization and won the Daniel Shiran Memorial Research Prize, the Wolf Foundation Krill Prize, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science Grand Prize.
