Tal Shima

Professor Tal Shima ’92, Ph.D.’01 is the Dean of the Technion Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and head of the Cooperative Autonomous Systems Laboratory (CASY).

Prof. Shima’s research interests focus on the guidance of vehicles, particularly missiles and unmanned aircraft, operating individually or as a team. The interdisciplinary work of CASY scientists spans from cooperatively planning and guiding spacecraft with regard to optimizing and following their trajectories, and low-level control of a single vehicle. Their work seeks to devise new algorithms and strategies for performing both cooperative and individual tasks. CASY research is supported by the Israel Science Foundation, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

Prof. Shima received all three degrees from the Technion, earning his Ph.D. in 2001, and an MBA from Tel Aviv University. He started his career as a research system engineer at the defense technology company RAFAEL. From 2004 to 2006, he worked at the U.S. Air Force Research Labs on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He then joined the Technion in 2006 and founded the CASY lab.
