Neil G. Oberman

Neil G. Oberman is a seasoned lawyer with over 25 years of experience specializing in commercial and civil disputes. As a shareholder at Spiegel Sohmer Inc., he focuses on public injunctions and regularly represents clients before the Court of Québec, the Superior Court, and the Quebec Court of Appeal. Neil’s legal journey began with a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) from Université Laval, followed by advanced studies in European Law (1997) and a Master of Law (LL.M.) from Université de Montréal. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Concordia University.

A respected member of the legal community, Neil is a member of the Québec Bar and the Canadian Bar Association. His accomplishments include receiving the Lord Reading Law Society’s Human Rights Advocacy Award in 2024 and serving in leadership roles, such as Vice President of the English Speaking Bar Association (2023-2024) and Governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation. He has also been involved in various committees, including the Disciplinary Committee and the Bar Liaison Committee with the Quebec Court.

Neil is deeply committed to social justice, particularly in fighting antisemitism. He is a founding member of the Quebec Jewish Legal Alliance and has taken legal action to protect Jewish institutions and students against hate. He has also testified in Parliament on issues related to combating hatred. In his personal life, Neil is passionate about technology and the law, enjoys spending time with his family—including his wife Stephanie and their 19 year-old son—and is an animal lover, particularly of his rescue dog Doug. Through his work and personal endeavors, Neil remains dedicated to making a positive impact on his community.
