Jonathan Sokol – Innovating for Israel

Technion Stories

Though we may not always be aware, the Technion, and its respective alumni, have provided all of us with technologies that we use daily, in sectors such as engineering, healthcare and defense. The Technion has played a large role in international innovation and technological progress. Just as significant is Technion’s contributions to Israel’s growth, geo-political presences, defense capabilities and advances in medicine.  As someone with a deep patriotism for Israel, supporting the Technion is just one way that I can help to strengthen the country, while helping Israel make a positive and innovative impact on the world.

I was first introduced to Technion Canada about two years ago, by a close friend and business mentor. He is very passionate about what the Technion offers and has supported it for many years. He used my Israeli patriotism to get me involved and it was not a hard sell. After getting involved with Technion Canada, I was able to visit the Technion in Haifa and see first-hand how my support was being used to foster innovation and to strengthen the State of Israel, which reinforced my desire to give back.

In addition to my personal motivations and connections to the Technion, my fiancée is currently a student at Technion’s medical school. Her excitement at learning and collaborating with her faculty has made me realize the importance of having an excellent educational environment for passionate students, and we are so grateful for this. I am sure that this is how the Technion continues to attract and retain the brilliant minds that lead to brilliant innovation.

I hope that others become aware of what the Technion has developed for the world over its history, to inspire support for Israel and for the Technion through Technion Canada.
